Feeding a nutritionally complete diet to your dog is a vital part of successful ownership and breeding. By combining the correct feed and feeding strategy, dogs can be maintained in peak condition without the need of supplementary feeding. The SWANICS range is scientifically formulated to provide all nutrients in a complete and bio-available form – an optimal balance of essential and health beneficial amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and metabolizable energy to ensure good nourishment throughout your dog’s lifecycle.
GOOD MANUFACTURING PROCESS
The SWANICS food range is manufactured by the process of extrusion that results in a sterile, cooked product that is highly digestible. This manufacturing process combines all the essential nutrients and functional ingredients into a homogeneous kibble. The process neutralizes inhibitors and destroys anti-nutritional factors in the raw materials, while improving palatability. We have carefully selected kibble sizes for each diet to ensure optimal crunch and eating comfort at each life stage.
INGREDIENT QUALITY AND TRANSPARENCY
The quality of our SWANICS diets are dependant on the quality of the ingredients included. To ensure that the ingredients meet our stringent quality parameters, the suppliers and their factories are subjected to detailed processing and quality control audits.
The nutritional value of a diet is determined by it’s nutrient content, not it’s ingredients. However, as ingredients are the source of nutrients, we pride ourselves in utilising the highest quality available ingredients. Sustainability forms an integral part of our approach to nutrition. We believe it is our responsibility to develop a trusted relationship with our customers, which is why we do not make use of ingredient groupings on our packaging but openly disclose each individual ingredient.
FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION
Over-and-above providing complete and balanced nutrition or nutrient fortification, the approach to functional nutrition is based on a philosophy of embracing the additional benefits of selected natural and functional food ingredients called nutraceuticals. We have included a breeders-pack in all our diets which contains pet nutraceuticals that provide additional benefits throughout the entire life cycle from puppy to adult.
Collagen, is a protein found in the connective tissues of animals. Collagen is known to support joint health, as it provides the building blocks for cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. Additionally, collagen helps maintain healthy skin and a shiny coat, as it plays a crucial role in the formation of collagen fibers, which are essential for skin elasticity and hair strength.
Algal DHA, Provides omega 3 fatty acids for an ideal balance of omega 6 and 3 fatty acids that is essential for normal skin health and coat condition, by reducing inflammation in joints. Omega 3 fatty acids are also important for the development of cognitive and learning capacity in puppies.
Nucleotides, important components for DNA and RNA maintenance and recovery to aid in formation and repair of cells. Therefore, aiding digestion and absorption of food and maintaining cellular integrity.
Gut-active botanicals, found in our phytogenic compounds, contain essential oils which have antimicrobial and gut health promoting properties. The inclusion of unique plant active ingredients or phytonutrients in our range offers natural protective benefits. The phytonutrient blend is formulated with extracts of sweet chestnut, capsicum, cinnamon, and oregano – scientifically combined to utilize its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, properties to synergistically support the health and well-being of your dog's digestive system.
Calcium Butyrate, a short chain fatty acid provides an energy source for the growth of gut epithelial cell, which in turn helps to stabilize tight junctions for a healthy gut lining and absorption capacity.
L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino-acid –like compound . L-carnitine plays a crucial role in energy metabolism by facilitating the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria, the cellular powerhouses responsible for energy production. By enhancing fatty acid utilization, L-carnitine helps dogs efficiently convert stored body fat into energy, making it particularly beneficial for canines on weight management programs or those needing an extra energy boost.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin, Glucosamine is a naturally occurring compound that helps maintain the integrity and lubrication of joint cartilage, while chondroitin is a major component of cartilage that provides structure and elasticity. When combined, glucosamine and chondroitin work synergistically to support joint function and mobility in dogs.
Functional fatty acids such as lauric acid and butyric acid help decrease the amount of pathogenic gut bacteria and act as an excellent source for energy for gut cell growth and nutrient absorption.
Prebiotics, such as Inulin a mannooligosaccharides derived from carrots and chicory root as nutrient substrate for beneficial gut microbes, promoting a healthy and stable gut microbiome.
Natural antioxidants protect the cells against free radicals which are formed during oxidation, reducing oxidative stress and promoting health – especially during rapid environmental changes.
Zinc and Selenium, are trace-elements needed by dogs. Zinc is involved in numerous reproductive processes, including hormone production, sperm development, and egg fertilization. It helps maintain normal reproductive function in both male and female dogs, supporting healthy fertility and successful breeding. Selenium, on the other hand, acts as an antioxidant and is crucial for proper sperm development and motility.
Natural Clay Minerals are polar minerals included in the diet to help bind harmful mycotoxins and nitrogen produced by the fermentation of proteins which contribute to the odour of stool.
STORAGE and SHELF-LIFE
SWANICS is made of fresh ingredients and packed in suitable packaging that will enable the food to always maintain the best possible condition – staying dry and adequately protected from oxidation. Additionally, natural antioxidants are included in the diets to reduce the chance of oxidation, ultimately extending shelf life.
FEEDING RECOMMENDATION
SWANICS is formulated and produced to be of premium palatability and digestibility. Caution should be taken to prevent overfeeding. However, your dog’s requirements may vary according to size, age and environmental conditions.
Gradually phase SWANICS in with the current food over a 4-day period by substituting 25% per day. Any feeding disorders should be referred to an experienced pet nutritionist or veterinarian without hesitation.
